YMCA Expands Preschool Program: 40 New Spots Available This Fall! Register Now! (2026)

The Owensboro Family YMCA is gearing up for an exciting expansion of its preschool program, offering a valuable service to the community. This initiative, supported by the Public Life Foundation, will significantly boost access to full-day preschool for potty-trained children aged 3-5. Starting August 17, the YMCA will welcome 40 additional students, providing a nurturing and engaging environment for early learners.

This expansion is a testament to the YMCA's commitment to supporting working families and addressing the critical need for childcare. Tom Bontrager, CEO of the YMCA, emphasizes the importance of accessible childcare, stating, 'We know access to childcare is critical for working families.' He further highlights the role of governments, foundations, and donors in making this service possible, creating a supportive ecosystem for families.

The preschool program is designed to promote kindergarten readiness through hands-on learning and developmentally appropriate instruction. The curriculum focuses on supporting the whole child, fostering skills essential for future academic success. Operating from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, the full-day preschool ensures a comprehensive and structured learning experience.

Registration for this program opens to the public on June 8, with a $200 nonrefundable registration and supply fee required to secure a spot. The YMCA's childcare department is available for inquiries at 270-663-8203 or via email. This expansion is a significant step towards enhancing early childhood education in the community, providing a solid foundation for children's future academic journeys.

In my opinion, the YMCA's initiative is a commendable effort to bridge the gap in childcare services. By increasing access to full-day preschool, the organization is not only supporting working families but also laying the groundwork for children's long-term success. This expansion is a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives in addressing societal needs.
